8 new Pokémon have been added to Pokemon GO

0

Today’s update was, in a nutshell, awesome. I don’t care what Nellies had to say, I really enjoyed logging into the game and grabbing a Christmas hat with Pikachu! But that’s not all that was added to the game today, oh no, not by far. 8 brand new pokemon have also been added to the game!

For now, there is only one way to get the new Pokémon: they must be hatched from an egg (except for one of them, which is an evolution of a Pokémon from an egg). This means that you will spend a lot time to walk over the next few weeks. Here are the new Pokémon and where (and how) to get them:

Pichu:

Pichu is Pikachu’s equally adorable little brother. Or child. Or…. Yeah, you understand. Pichu is the pre-evolution of Pikachu and Raichu. From now on, as far as we know, Pikachu will (probably) not hatch more than one egg. Instead, you’ll hatch a Pichu.

  • Egg hatched from: 5km
  • Amount of candy needed to evolve into Pikachu: 25

Cleffa:

Cleffa is the pre-evolution of Clefairy and Clefable, and is a cute little pink moon monster. It’s exactly the same deal as with Pichu & Pikachu: the introduction of Cleffa means that Clefairy will (probably) not hatch more than one egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 2km
  • Amount of candy needed to evolve into Clefairy: 25

Igglybuff:

Igglybuff is Cleffa’s best friend, and they play daycare together every day while their coaches battle Team Rocket. Igglybuff is the pre-evolution of Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff, and yes, same deal as above; Jigglypuff will (probably) not hatch more than one egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 2km
  • Amount of candy needed to evolve into Jigglypuff: 25

Togepi:

Too cute. If you’re a fan of old school anime, you’ll remember Togepi as that little Pokemon egg that Misty always carried. Togepi is unique among the new Pokémon added to the game in that its evolution, Togetic, has been not available in the game until now.

  • Egg hatched from: 5km
  • Amount of candy needed to evolve in Togetic: 50

Togetic:

Togetic is the slightly less fat and more adult evolution of Togepi. You won’t find one of these Pokémon inside an egg, and that’s because it has to be evolved from a Togepi (duh) for a grand total of 50 candies.

Smoochum:

Smoochum is Jynx’s sassy pre-evolution. As with all the other pre-evolutions on this list, since Smoochum was added to the game, Jynx will (probably) not hatch more than one egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 10km
  • Amount of candy needed to evolve into Jynx: 25

Elekid:

Elekid is the electrifying pre-evolution of Electabuzz. Same as above: with the addition of Elekid to the game, Electabuzz will (probably) not hatch more than one egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 10km
  • Amount of candy needed to evolve in Electabuzz: 25

Magby:

And last but not least, Magby is the pre-evolution of Magmar. You now know the exercise: Magmar will (probably) not hatch more than one egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 10km
  • Amount of candy needed to evolve into Magmar: 25

But where the hell is Tyrogue?

Something interesting about this latest update was that Tyrogue wasn’t added to the game alongside the other baby Pokémon. For those who are not in the know, Tyrogue is a Pokémon that is very similar to those listed above in that it is the pre-evolution of the two Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. Maybe Niantic doesn’t know how to implement Tyrogue yet? Who knows.

But what do you think of these new Pokémon? Have you ever managed to hatch one? Do you think Niantic did a good job releasing only 8 Pokémon (out of 95 possible) today? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below!
